Danny Umali on the Aspire to Be Podcast

Aspire to Be Podcast, Episode 7: Danny Umali

I appreciate what Danny Umali is building with his unique approach to college admissions with Game Theory College Planners. Our conversation could easily have focused on the sometimes-turbulent college admissions process, or even the impact of AI adoption. At the root, Danny is building a business where the model is continuously shifting (I can relate – marketing is similar). We’re both in the second decade of owning a business, so it’s refreshing to hear about the founding of Game Theory College Planners and his steps along the way.

Danny’s path to disrupting college admissions as a planner comes by way of the restaurant industry, loss prevention in retail business, and financial planning. Helping clients with financial planning lead Danny to helping families find that right college fit – both academically and financially. It’s a testament to his tenacity that Danny is scaling his company nationally after helping nearly 40,000 families with college planning. You read that correctly, 40,000 families.

Part of the reason for producing Aspire to Be is to make these connections with other business owners and entrepreneurs. Danny indicated that it is a struggle is to find other owners that walk this path, to compare notes and confirm decisions. His raw honesty about what it has been like to get to this point is exactly the kind of conversation that will help everyone find that “right fit” in growing a business. I look forward to further conversations with Danny as he forges ahead into Game Theory’s next decade!
